Shana Burns, LMFT
Hi, I’m Shana, the founder and owner of the group psychotherapy private practice, Ojai Marriage and Family Therapy Inc. dba Work in Progress Therapy. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) serving in the role of Clinical Supervisor for each of the Associate Marriage and Family Therapists (AMFT) within the practice. I am a deeply passionate and dedicated psychotherapist and leader with over two decades of experience in the behavioral health care field. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Iowa in 1998 (with an emphasis in contemporary poetry) and I hold a Master’s of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology in 2005 from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco. I have served in a variety of leadership roles within several community mental health organizations throughout both the Bay Area and Central Coast of California, in addition to maintaining a solo private practice for 10 years prior to opening my group private practice.
My therapeutic areas of specialization include working with adults and couples facing significant interpersonal relationship challenges, complex trauma histories, substance abuse/dependence, existential and identity crises, life transitions, sexual assault, anger issues, personality disorders, legal/justice involvement, compulsive behaviors and grief & loss.
My theoretical orientations integrate person-centered, strengths focused, trauma-attuned psychodynamic, relational and attachment based psychotherapeutic approaches. I believe wholeheartedly in the resiliency of the human spirit and the potential for internal transformation through the holding space of a trusting therapeutic relationship.
I am currently accepting new clients to include adults and couples.
